Terms and Conditions

Plain rules for using this site and the Detour plugin. The plugin is free and open source. You run it. You own the outcome. Read this so we both know where we stand.

Effective: May 5, 2026

These Terms govern your use of the website at detourwp.com (the “Site”) and your use of the Detour WordPress plugin (the “Plugin”). The Site and the Plugin are operated by Centreville Tech LLC (“we”, “our”).

By using the Site or the Plugin, you agree to these Terms and to the Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Site or the Plugin.

What this Site is

The Site is the marketing and documentation site for the Detour WordPress plugin. The Plugin source code, releases, and issue tracker live at github.com/centrevilletech/detour. For specifics on what the Plugin does, see the home page and the FAQ.

License

The Site content (text, layouts, illustrations, and SVG artwork) is © Centreville Tech LLC, except for third party assets (Simple Icons, Lucide-inspired icons, Google Fonts) which are governed by their respective licenses. You may quote and link to the Site freely. You may not copy the layout, illustrations, or substantial portions of the text and present them as your own work.

The Plugin is licensed under the GNU General Public License, version 2 or later (GPL-2.0-or-later). The full license text travels with the Plugin source and is also available at gnu.org/licenses/old-licenses/gpl-2.0.html. Your rights and obligations regarding the Plugin source code are set by the GPL. These Terms do not modify the GPL and do not restrict your GPL-granted rights.

Disclaimer of warranties

THE SITE AND THE PLUGIN ARE PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE” WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, AND FREEDOM FROM DEFECTS.

We do not warrant that the Site will be available without interruption, that the Plugin will work in every WordPress environment, that the Plugin is free of bugs or security issues, that the redirect rules you configure will produce the SEO outcome you want, or that the data the Plugin collects (404 logs, hit counters) will be free of errors.

The GPL-2.0-or-later license under which the Plugin is distributed contains its own disclaimer of warranties. That disclaimer applies in full and is incorporated here by reference.

Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT WILL CENTREVILLE TECH LLC, ITS OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, AGENTS, OR CONTRIBUTORS BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, REVENUE, DATA, GOODWILL, OR BUSINESS, ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH:

  • Your use of, or inability to use, the Site or the Plugin
  • Any conduct or content on the Site or in the Plugin
  • Bugs, errors, omissions, downtime, security issues, data loss, or unintended redirect behavior in the Plugin
  • Any third party content or third party service referenced on the Site (including Google Analytics, Google Fonts, Google Search Console, GitHub, the WordPress plugin directory, the original upstream plugin, or any third party redirect or SEO tool)
  • Any unauthorized access to or alteration of your installation of the Plugin or your WordPress site

This limitation applies whether the alleged liability is based on contract, tort (including negligence), strict liability, statute, or any other basis, and even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.

In jurisdictions that do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or the limitation of liability for incidental or consequential damages, our liability is limited to the maximum extent permitted by law.

Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Centreville Tech LLC, its officers, employees, agents, and contributors from and against any claim, demand, loss, damage, cost, or expense (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising out of or related to:

  • Your use of the Site or the Plugin
  • Your configuration of redirect rules, fallback destinations, or any other Plugin behavior on a site you operate
  • Content you publish on a site that runs the Plugin
  • Your violation of these Terms
  • Your violation of any law or the rights of a third party

Your responsibilities when using the Plugin

The Plugin is a tool. You are the operator. You are solely responsible for:

  • Backing up your WordPress database before installing or updating the Plugin
  • Verifying that redirect rules behave as intended on a staging environment before deploying them in production
  • Compliance with applicable law in your jurisdiction, including consumer protection law, advertising disclosure law, accessibility law, and search engine guidelines for redirects, cloaking, and content removal
  • Compliance with the privacy and data protection law that applies to your visitors when you use the Plugin’s 404 log, which records IP addresses on your own server

Acceptable use of the Site

You agree not to:

  • Attempt to break, disrupt, overload, or perform denial of service against the Site
  • Scrape the Site at a rate that imposes meaningful load on it
  • Misrepresent your affiliation with us or with the Plugin
  • Use the Site or the Plugin name to mislead users about the source or origin of software you distribute
  • Use the Site or the Plugin in any unlawful manner

Third party services

The Site loads Google Analytics 4 and Google Fonts in the visitor’s browser, and the Site is registered with Google Search Console. The Plugin downloads page (GitHub) is operated by GitHub, Inc. The upstream plugin we forked from is hosted on the WordPress.org plugin directory. We are not responsible for the content, availability, terms, or behavior of these third party services.

No professional advice

Information on the Site, including in the FAQ, about how redirects, HTTP status codes (301, 302, 307, 308, 410), and 404 handling interact with search engine indexing is provided for general information only. It is not legal advice, not SEO consulting, and not a guarantee of search engine behavior. If you need professional advice, hire a professional. Centreville Tech provides paid WordPress engineering and marketing engineering services on a normal client engagement basis, separate from this Site.

Open source contributions

If you contribute code to the Plugin, you agree that your contribution is licensed under GPL-2.0-or-later and may be redistributed under that license. There is no separate contributor license agreement.

Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms. Material changes will be posted here with a new effective date. Continued use of the Site or the Plugin after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Site at any time and for any reason, including for violation of these Terms. The disclaimer of warranties, limitation of liability, indemnification, and governing law provisions survive any termination.

Governing law and venue

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Alabama, USA, without regard to conflict of laws principles. The exclusive venue for any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms is the state or federal courts located in Bibb County, Alabama, and you consent to the personal jurisdiction of those courts.

Severability

If any provision of these Terms is held to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect, and the unenforceable provision will be modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it enforceable while preserving its intent.

Entire agreement

These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy and the GPL-2.0-or-later license that governs the Plugin, constitute the entire agreement between you and Centreville Tech LLC regarding the Site and the Plugin, and supersede any prior agreements or understandings.
